A Vision for Inclusive Education
The Sadhane Scheme is a major initiative by the Government of Karnataka aimed at supporting students with disabilities. The core belief behind this program is simple: disability should never limit a student’s ability to achieve success. To make this vision a reality, the Department for the Empowerment of Differently Abled and Senior Citizens has designed a scheme that ensures continuous educational support from early schooling to higher education.

Main Objective of the Scheme
The primary goal is to identify children with disabilities at an early stage and provide them with the resources needed to complete their education without financial stress. The scheme gives special importance to students pursuing higher education, technical courses, and professional programs, helping them build strong careers.
Financial Support and Scholarships
One of the key features is the annual scholarship, available to eligible students from Class 1 to postgraduate level. This ensures that students can manage their educational expenses year after year. Additionally, the government offers full fee reimbursement for students studying after SSLC. This includes admission fees, tuition fees, and other academic charges like lab and library fees.
Free Laptop and Learning Resources
The scheme provides talking laptops and Braille textbooks to visually impaired students, making learning more accessible. These tools are specially designed to support independent study and improve academic performance. This is one of the standout benefits of the program.
Assistive Devices for Better Mobility and Learning
Students with hearing impairments receive modern hearing aids, while those with physical disabilities are provided with assistive devices such as tricycles and artificial limbs. These resources help students participate more actively in education and daily life.
Support for Special Schools
The scheme also strengthens institutions that serve students with disabilities. Financial assistance is given to improve school infrastructure and support teacher salaries, ensuring better quality education in special schools.
Additional Benefits and Incentives
Under the Pratibha Scheme, students scoring more than 60% in public exams like SSLC and PUC are rewarded with cash prizes. The scheme also provides free or subsidized bus passes, helping students travel easily across the state.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply, a student must have at least 40% disability certified by a recognized authority. The scheme is currently active for the 2025–2026 academic year.
Required Documents
Applicants need to submit important documents such as a disability certificate, Aadhaar card, caste and income certificates, bank details, study certificate, previous marks card, and passport-size photos.
How to Apply
Students can apply online through the official government portal. They need to select the relevant department, choose the Sadhane Scheme, fill in details, upload documents, and submit the form. After submission, it is important to download and keep the acknowledgment receipt.
