Bengaluru: The Karnataka government continues to strengthen social security for women workers through the “Thayi Lakshmi Bond Scheme”, implemented by the Karnataka Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board. The scheme provides financial assistance of up to ₹50,000 to eligible women labourers during childbirth, aiming to improve maternal and child welfare across the state.

This initiative is especially beneficial for women working in the construction sector who often face financial difficulties during pregnancy. The government has structured the scheme to ensure that proper healthcare and financial support are accessible to economically weaker families.

 Eligibility Criteria

  • Must hold a valid and active labour card
  • Should have completed minimum 90 days of work in the construction sector
  • Scheme applies generally for first and second childbirth only
  • Registration with the welfare board must be up to date

Applicants need to submit the following documents while applying:

  • Labour Card (valid and active)
  • Aadhaar Card
  • Child’s Birth Certificate
  • Bank Account Details (for DBT transfer)
  • Hospital/Medical Certificate confirming delivery
  • Recent passport-size photograph

 Financial Assistance Details

  • Up to ₹30,000 for girl child
  • Up to ₹20,000 for boy child
  • Total benefits (including combined provisions) may reach ₹50,000

Officials have clarified that this is not a general scheme for all children of labour card holders, but a maternity support program specifically for women labourers during childbirth.

Application Process

Eligible beneficiaries can apply through:

  • Online portal (Seva Sindhu)
  • Nearest Labour Welfare Office

After submission, authorities verify the application and documents. Once approved, the amount is directly credited to the beneficiary’s bank account.
