In a historic move, the School Education and Literacy Department has proposed amendments to the Karnataka Educational Department Recruitment Rules, 1967 to create a separate cadre of Computer Science Teachers for Classes 1 to 8 in government schools.

Educational Qualification
Candidates must possess any one of the following qualifications:
- B.Sc in Computer Science
- Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA)
- Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT)
- B.E./B.Tech in Computer Science or related discipline
Kannada Language Requirement
Applicants should have studied and passed Kannada as either the First or Second Language in both SSLC and PUC examinations.
B.Ed Not Required at the Time of Recruitment
The draft rules provide a significant relaxation for Computer Science graduates.
Candidates without a B.Ed degree can still apply and be selected. However, after joining the service, they must:
- Complete a B.Ed degree from an NCTE-recognized institution within 5 years.
- Pass the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) within 5 years of appointment.
Failure to fulfill these conditions within the prescribed period may attract action as per government rules.
