Free Driving Training Scheme 2026: Eligibility & Documents Explained

Bengaluru: The Government of has introduced a major skill development initiative in 2026, offering free driving training to eligible youth across the state. The scheme is aimed at improving employment opportunities, particularly for underprivileged communities. Authorities have now clarified the eligibility criteria and required documents, making it easier for applicants to understand how to apply.

Who Can Apply?

According to officials, candidates must meet certain basic conditions to qualify for the scheme. Applicants should be between 18 and 45 years of age and must be permanent residents of Karnataka. The program mainly targets individuals from Scheduled Castes (SC), minority groups, and economically weaker sections, though others may also apply depending on availability.

Educational qualification is kept minimal to ensure wider participation. Candidates are generally required to have passed at least 8th or 10th standard. In addition, applicants must be physically fit, with good vision and overall health, as the training involves handling heavy motor vehicles.

Officials also noted that preference may be given to those who do not already possess a heavy vehicle driving license, as the scheme is intended to create new skilled drivers rather than upgrade existing ones.

To ensure transparency and proper verification, applicants must submit a set of essential documents along with their application. These include:

  • Aadhaar Card for identity verification
  • Proof of residence to confirm Karnataka domicile
  • Caste certificate (if applying under reserved categories)
  • Educational qualification certificate (8th or 10th pass)
  • Recent passport-size photographs
  • Medical fitness certificate confirming ability to drive
  • Existing driving license, if available (optional in some cases)

Authorities emphasized that all documents must be valid and accurate, as incomplete or incorrect submissions could lead to rejection.
