Karnataka Government Removes Ineligible Beneficiaries from Gruha Lakshmi Scheme
The verification process for the Karnataka government’s Gruha Lakshmi Scheme has been intensified. During the first phase of inspection across 17 districts, around 1,12,092 ineligible beneficiaries have been identified and removed from the scheme.
The removed beneficiaries mainly include:
- Deceased beneficiaries whose accounts were still receiving money
- Women who were paying Income Tax or GST despite not being eligible under the scheme

Government Action Against Misuse
The government received several complaints regarding misuse of guarantee schemes, including:
- Money being credited to accounts of deceased beneficiaries
- Misuse of free electricity benefits for commercial purposes
- Changing mobile numbers to divert benefits
Government Response
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said that the government is seriously reviewing allegations of misuse of guarantee schemes.
He clarified that the aim is to ensure that benefits reach only eligible beneficiaries. Regarding reduction or stopping of Gruha Lakshmi payments, he stated that he currently has no official information.
Biometric Verification System Coming Soon
To improve transparency and prevent misuse, the Karnataka government is considering introducing a mandatory biometric verification system for Gruha Lakshmi beneficiaries in the future.
