The PM Vishwakarma Yojana is a flagship initiative of the Government of India aimed at supporting traditional artisans and skilled workers. One of the most talked-about benefits under this scheme is the sewing machine assistance for tailors. However, many viral social media posts falsely claim that every woman with a ration card can receive a free sewing machine and ₹15,000 in cash. The official guidelines are different.
Under this scheme, only eligible self-employed tailors (Darzi) and other traditional artisans can receive benefits after completing the required verification and training process.
Who Can Apply?
Applicants must satisfy the following conditions:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Should be working as a self-employed tailor (Darzi) or another eligible traditional artisan in the unorganized sector.
- Only one member per family can receive benefits under the scheme.
- No immediate family member should be employed in the Central or State Government.
- Applicants should not have received similar government livelihood assistance under schemes such as PMEGP, PM SVANidhi, or similar programs during the last five years.
Benefits Available
Eligible beneficiaries receive several forms of support under the PM Vishwakarma Scheme:
- Basic Skill Training: 5–7 days of professional training.
- Advanced Skill Training: Optional training of 15 days or more for skill enhancement.
- Daily Stipend: ₹500 per day is credited directly to the beneficiary’s bank account during the training period.
- Toolkit Incentive: After successfully completing the basic training, beneficiaries receive a ₹15,000 e-RUPI digital voucher. This voucher is used to purchase a sewing machine, tailoring tools, and related equipment from authorized dealers. It is not paid as cash.
- Collateral-Free Business Loan: Eligible artisans can apply for loans of up to ₹1 lakh in the first phase and ₹2 lakh in the second phase at a concessional interest rate of 5%, subject to eligibility and repayment conditions.

The registration process is conducted through authorized government service centers.
- Visit your nearest Common Service Center (CSC) or Digital Seva Kendra.
- Carry your Aadhaar Card, Aadhaar-linked mobile number, and bank account details.
- Complete biometric verification using your fingerprint.
- Submit your application by selecting Tailor (Darzi) as your trade if applicable.
- Your application will be verified by local authorities, district officials, and the designated screening committee.

Important Information
The PM Vishwakarma Scheme does not provide ₹15,000 in cash or an instant free sewing machine to every ration card holder. The toolkit benefit is issued only after successful training and verification, and it is provided as an e-RUPI voucher for purchasing approved equipment.
Applicants should avoid fake websites, misleading social media posts, and unofficial registration links. Always apply through authorized CSC centers or the official government portal to ensure a safe and genuine application process.
